Be a counselor at YD Camp!

Being a counselor at YD Camp isn’t just a role—it’s a life-changing adventure. You’ll form deep connections, grow in your faith, and have the privilege of leading young people closer to Jesus.

Each summer, counselors witness God working in incredible ways, and many campers trace their decision to follow Christ back to the care and encouragement of their counselor. This could be you!

If you’re a dedicated Christian with a heart for ministry, we’d love for you to apply. Counselor positions are limited, so apply early!

Camp prep/cleanup

Counselors are encouraged to arrive early for the pre-camp work bee (July 7–9) to help prepare camp—setting up tents, cleaning, cooking, and more. It’s a great way to bond with fellow staff while serving! A post-camp work bee (July 29–31) will also be held to pack up camp. If interested, mark your application.

Being a counselor

Being a counselor is a tremendous but rewarding responsibility. You’ll build deep connections with campers, guide them spiritually, and develop leadership skills. Because you’ll work closely with campers, you must have a strong relationship with God, a surrendered heart, and a willingness to serve selflessly.

Every year, campers ask many questions. They want to know why we do what we do, how to be a Christian, and how to pray. If you are not secure in your Christian walk, please do not apply to be a counselor.  If you have any questions or concerns, please talk with camp administration.

Qualifications:

  • at least 17 years of age.
  • able to love campers, even the “unlovable.”
  • able to discipline with both love and firmness.
  • have stamina and patience.
  • support camp codes and values wholeheartedly.

Responsibilities:

  • supervise a group of campers from the time they arrive to the time they leave.
  • be responsible for the mental, emotional, spiritual, and physical well-being of every camper assigned to you.
  • lead your campers to a closer walk with Jesus.
  • serve as a class instructor or assist with another responsibility.
  • cultivate opportunities to personally counsel each camper in your unit.
  • attend counselor prayer sessions.

Counselor retreat (July 27–29)

After camp, counselors can enjoy a retreat with fellow counselors—featuring recreation, worships, and activities to strengthen their commitment to the Lord.

Meals & lodging:

Enjoy YD’s non-dairy vegetarian meals, with gluten-free options available for those who request them ahead of time (be sure to note this on your application).

Finances

YD Camp is an outreach ministry. Since camper revenues do not cover the expenses of operating the camp, we rely on staff and counselors who can serve on a volunteer basis. Your time is a gift with eternal impact!
